¡Un placer en conocerte! Today, I’m pleased to introduce myself as thenew Director of the Mid County Regional Center. As a native of Montgomery County,I’m honored to serve my community in this role. I have been working as a nonprofit executive for the last five and ahalf years supporting our most vulnerable populations in our region. Now, I take a larger step by supporting avaster and broader population throughout the mid-county area.

One way in which I plan to achieve this goal is through thisblog, writing about my experiences throughout the community, sharing theinformation I gain through my work, and celebrating the many achievements thatemerge in our community. This would notbe possible without getting to know you—our youth, families, residents andbusinesses of this area. With elevencommunities a part of my region—communities of Wheaton, Kemp Mill, Aspen Hill, Glenmont,Layhill, Kensington, Norbeck, Olney, Sandy Spring, Upper Rock Creek andBrookeville—there is much to learn about the unique assets that distinguisheach area from the other. I need help inthis process, particularly with introductions to your communities or maybe inanswering some of the many questions I have. Questions like:

What are you mostproud of in your community? ¿De que estas orgulloso/a en tu comunidad?
How do you get to knowyour neighbors? ¿Como tratas de conocer tus vecinos?
Do you know how thechildren of your community are faring? ¿Sabes como estan viviendo losniños de tu comunidad?

These questions can tell us a great deal about how we are allliving in these communities, connected or not to the realities of the people aroundus. They might even challenge us to try new forms of communication andengagement. My hope is that together, wecan learn something new about each other that may change how we view the futureof our community.
